Science Fair!

The annual Science Fair was held at Brockton Christian School on Monday, March 27, 2006. This year's Overall Champion Award was given to Brianna Morrell, a 7th grade student. Her project was titled, "What Substance Prevents Iron From Rusting?”. All of the sixth through eighth graders competed in the Science Fair.

First place winner in the 8th grade was Joshua Bevilacqua, with 2nd place going to Melanie Ferreira. Their projects were titled "Fact or Friction – Which Substance Reduces Friction the Best?" and "Does Baking Soda Affect the Quality of Sugar Cookies?”, respectively. Jonathan Lessard placed 3rd with “Which Kind of Baseball Bat Hits the Best?”.

The 7th grade's 1st place winner was Emily Franceschi with "Homemade Vs. Commercial – Which Cleans Rugs the Best?”. Derek Meehan finished in 2nd place with "Kinetic Energy?”. Placing third was Elizabeth Chauppette, with “Temperature – Does it Affect the Growth of Crystals?"

Luke Ferreira won 1st place in the 6th grade with “Does Temperature Affect How Popcorn Pops?”. Rebekah Lunsford placed in 2nd place with “Which Lotion Works the Best?”. Johashy Cornely placed 3rd with “What is the Best Sound Insulator?”

Projects were judged by several volunteers from the community, including: Mr. Dennis Soliwada, retired educator; BCS parents Mrs. Roxanne Adams, Mr. David Durang, Mrs. Diane LaCasse, Mrs. Taquea Barros, and Mr. Richard Lessard; and Mrs. Kathy Dwyer, BCS nurse. Mrs. Rosanna Kingsley and Mrs. Tracy Ciulla-Monteiro are our Middle School Science teachers. Mrs. Debra Powell and Mrs. Karen Hodges coordinated this year’s Science Fair.

The Science Fair winners will all be attending the ACSI Regional Science Fair in May, which will be held at the New Testament Christian School in Norton, Massachusetts.

7th Grade Cookbook Project

We still have a number of World Culture Cookbooks for sale – at a great price of $7.00 per cookbook! It is also a way to help our 7th grade class raise funds to help pay for the environmental cleanup of their classroom. You may send in money to the school office.

Stanford Achievement Testing

Our annual SAT testing week will be from April 7 - 13. All students in grades K – 8 will be tested, with subtests being given each day. It is important that students arrive to school on time, as we start testing the first thing in the morning.

Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time, and has had a healthy breakfast. A good night’s sleep will help your child to concentrate on the testing, as well!

If your child is tardy, and testing has begun in the classroom, he or she will have to wait in the office until the class has finished.

There will be no makeup for testing, so please make sure that your child arrives on time daily. If your child is sick, has a temperature, or is vomiting, PLEASE keep him or her at home! Thank you!

_______________________

SAT testing will begin on Friday, April 7, and continue on through the next week. Please make sure that your child attends every day – and on time through the testing week! Thank you!
