Safety Alert…

Brockton Board of Health notified us that all evening activities should be held inside due to the threat of EEE. For the time being, we will be having our students wait inside the school before school each morning as an additional precaution. Students in grades PreK – 3 will be in grade 4. Students in grades 5 – 8 will wait in grade 7. This will continue until the first hard frost.

Calendar Fundraiser

Today, your child received a packet with a letter and calendar. Please share the sample calendar with family and friends. They will sell for $6.00 per calendar. Our calendar fundraiser project runs from October 4 – 23. Thank you for your help! Last year, we were able to raise over $2800.00 to help with our specials classes!

Opportunities to Help

Would you like to get more involved in your child’s school? Here are some opportunities to help!

  • help in the office stuffing plastic packets (Tuesdays) – filled by Laura Kasica!!
  • help with the phone and front door in the office
  • Iron curtains and hang them in the sun room (you would need to bring in an ironing board/iron) any day!
  • help supervise recess (mornings – 10:00 – 10:35)
  • volunteer in a classroom (see Mrs. Hodges)
  • Help sort and count ink jet cartridges for recycling (can be done at home!)

New Sport Stacking Club!

Mrs. Nancy Durang, our PreK aide and one of our gym teachers, will be starting an afterschool club for grades 4 – 8. The “Sport Stacking Club” will give our students an opportunity to compete at sport stacking as well as develop sportsmanship and school spirit.

Students should sign up and send in their permission slips by Monday, October 2. They will be meeting on alternate Tuesday afternoons from 2:15 – 3:30 PM. Students who are not picked up at 3:30 will be signed into AfterCare.

The students in grades K – 3 are also learning sport stacking in gym class – so all of our students can develop skills and learn this new sport. Additional information may be found on the sport stacking website at: www.speedstacks.com

Benefits of Speed Stacking…

  • Speed Stacks sport stacking programs promote hand-eye coordination and ambidexterity - valuable skills that translate to other areas of life.
  • Sport Stacking Clubs reinforce the value of team work and the importance of never giving up.
  • Sport stacking encourages perseverance and practice as ways to improve
  • Sport stacking is JUST PLAIN FUN!!!

Upcoming Field Trips..

The Middle School students will be traveling to the Brockton Public Library on October 5, 6 for a tour and time to research for their biography project. (see our website - www.brocktonchristian.com – CRS class for more information on their project!)

Grades K, 1, and 2 will be going to C.N. Smith Apple Farm on October 4 for apple picking.

PreCare

Do you need to drop your child off at school before 7:35 AM? We now have “PreCare”, supervised by Mrs. Fish. You can drop your child off after 7:00 AM in the kindergarten room (right next to the office). The charge is $2.00 per day per child. Call or email the school office for more details.

Picture Day

Our Picture Day has been rescheduled to Monday, October 2, 2006. You must pre-pay your photos if you wish to purchase them. Class photos will be taken as well, for a cost of $7.00. We have additional flyers in the office if you have misplaced yours.

Students should wear regular school uniforms for this photo, which will be used in the school yearbook, published later this year.

Teacher In-Service Day

On Friday, September 29, 2006, there will be no school for the students. The teachers will be attending a special workshop on two topics: Child Abuse and Working with students with Learning Disabilities.

Tutoring Opportunity

A Christian family in Easton is looking for a Christian person to work with their autistic son about 15 hours per week. It is a paid position. For more information, please contact Mrs. Lunsford at SLLunsford@msn.com or 508-823-4053.

Health Issues…

We have recently become aware that head lice have appeared in our area again. Some of our younger students have had headlice recently, and there have been outbreaks in other schools in our area. Please check your child’s head regularly. The school should be informed if your child does have headlice. The child should not return to school until he or she is nit free.

Please keep your children at home if they exhibit the following symptoms:

  • vomiting within twelve hours
  • temperature over 99 degrees
  • excessive runny nose and/or coughing
  • diarrhea
  • rash of unknown origin

This will help keep the rest of our students healthy! Thank you.
