PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Parents should make every effort to support the activities and programs of BCS.
  • Parents should keep informed by reading material sent home by the school.  Office communications (newsletters, lunch orders, forms, etc.) will be sent home on Mondays.  Please ask your child for the information, or check your child’s backpack!
  • Every attempt should be made to meet all financial obligations on or before the due date.  If you are ever unable to pay on time, notify the Treasurer as soon as possible to make necessary arrangements.
  • Parents are responsible to see that the student arrives at school on time and is dressed appropriately.
  • Both parents should make every effort to attend Parent Conferences and school programs and activities.
  • Parents dissatisfied with the school in any respect should seek to resolve the matter with the person or persons involved.
  • If you are interested in participating in an advisory committee, please contact the principal of the school.

SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The School has full responsibility for placing a student in the proper grade.
  • The School reserves the right to dismiss any student who does not respect its spiritual standards or cooperate in the educational process.
  • The teacher has full discretion in the classroom discipline of his/her students in accordance with school philosophy.
  • The school will send home communications from the school office each Monday.  Newsletters are published weekly.  Information may also be found on the school website at:  www.brocktonchristian.com.
  • The school will sponsor events for parents to meet teachers and receive information, such as:  Back to School Night in September and Parent-Teacher Conferences in November and March.  The parent, a teacher, or the principal may request additional conferences.

THE BCS EXPERIENCE

An education at BCS can be a good and rewarding experience for both parents and children.  Several basic principles will contribute to this:

  • All of us are seeking the best for your child.  Your child will learn best if the parents and teacher are a team!  This perspective helps to put problems your child may encounter and conferences we may have into a very positive framework.
  • Talk to the teacher at the beginning of a problem.  Don't wait until the problem festers.  Handle little problems and they won't become big problems.
  • Be positive and encouraging with your child's teacher.  A word of praise from you will encourage a teacher’s heart.
  • Help your child to follow school policies.  Policies, such as the dress code, help the child to become aware of structure and rules in his life.  These are meant to help train the child.  A child who feels he is allowed to break these little rules will develop a similar attitude toward larger rules.  Please be cooperative when a teacher asks your help in enforcing a school policy.
  • When talking to a teacher, realize that children frequently tell only part of a story.  Be willing to get the whole story before making a judgment.
  • Realize that your child, like all children, could occasionally be the instigator of a problem.
  • Help your child with homework and memorization.  Check your child’s Agenda nightly to see that work is being completed thoroughly.
  • Please do not hesitate to call the school office at any time if we can answer any questions for you.  We will maintain an open door policy for both students and parents.
  • Please pray daily for your child's teacher that he or she will have His wisdom in all classroom situations.  In addition, the daily sharing of appropriate scriptures can help your child get off to a good start.

In working together we can help your child develop a Christian life philosophy that will prepare him for today and the future.

CHAIN OF COMMAND

Occasionally during the course of the year, misunderstandings or problems will arise between the teacher and a student, teacher and parents, parent and school, or one of several other possible areas.  Such a misunderstanding often results from lack of communication between those involved.

Students must, at all times, conduct themselves in a manner becoming a Christian.  Griping is not tolerated!  If a student comes home complaining about a discipline policy, parents should follow this procedure:

  • Remain objective.
  • Realize that your child's reporting is emotional, and may not contain all the relevant information.
  • Realize that we have reasons for all rules, and that we enforce them without favor.
  • Support the administration and call us for all the facts.

The administration has adopted a set policy for these situations, and complaints or problems will be handled in the way prescribed.  (Matthew 18:15-17)

  • All questions, problems, or complaints should be brought directly to the teacher first, before anyone else is involved.
  • If the situation is not cleared up at this level through direct contact (and 95 percent are), the problem should be brought to the principal.
  • The principal, teacher, and parents should meet together to discuss a solution to the problem.
  • Finally, but only when all the above three (3) steps are taken in order and without satisfactory resolution, does the problem find its way to the school board through written appeal.  The address is: BCS School Board, Trinity Baptist Church, 1367 Main St., Brockton, MA  02301.

COMMUNICATION

Office Communication

Office communications will be sent home on Mondays.  This includes the BCS newsletter (the BCS Connection), lunch order slips, and other school information.  AfterCare bills and statements will also be sent on Mondays.  Please check your child’s backpack daily to see if any messages have been sent home.

Appointments with Teachers

Please do not try to see teachers before or after school unless you have made an

appointment to do so.  A phone call the day before will help the teacher clear his or her time to see you.

Messages

If you need to get a message to your child regarding transportation changes, changed appointments, etc., these messages will be delivered at 1:30 PM.  Please call before this time to have a message delivered.

Notes Concerning Absences

All students are expected to abide by all state laws and school regulations regarding school attendance as well as other state laws and regulations regarding education. Parents/guardians and students should make every effort to see that a student is present every day that school is in session. Absences disrupt the continuity of instruction and education cannot be entirely regained, even by extra after school help. Learning gained through interaction with peers and staff in class cannot be duplicated. Generally, absences can be excused for illness, death or serious illness in the family, court dates, or for any other exceptionally urgent reason.

If your family is going away for an extended time, leaving school early or taking children out of school for appointments, please send an individual note to each of your children's teachers to facilitate communication.

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences are held each November and March for all students in grades PreK – 8.  One or both parents should attend, as report cards will be given out and reviewed at the parent conference.  Individual conferences may be arranged with the teacher whenever necessary.  Please make these appointments by calling the school office, or sending a note directly to your child's teacher.
