School Days AM Procedure
To promote greater safety for our students, all students that arrive by car will enter only at the front door. Students that arrive by van transportation (First Student) will arrive by a back classroom door.
Students that arrive earlier than 7:35 AM should be signed in by a parent or guardian to PreCare. Students may not wait in the school office, where sensitive issues may be discussed. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 AM. This extended care option will be invoiced at $2.00 per day, per student, if the student arrives prior to 7:35 AM. There will be no additional charge if the student arrives at school after 7:35 AM, when a teacher is on duty. Students using the PreCare program will be supervised by a staff member.
Students arriving after 7:35 AM will be supervised by a teacher. In moderate weather, students will wait in the school field until 7:55 AM. At 7:55 AM all students will enter the building and be in their classrooms for the start of the day at 8:00 AM.
Students arriving after 8:00 AM will be automatically considered tardy and must report to the office for a pass to be admitted to class.
In the event of inclement weather, students are to enter the building using the far right door (when facing the building) and proceed directly to the cafeteria area. Students are not permitted in the building prior to 8:00 AM unless they are moving to the cafeteria.
Parents are asked to not drop off students in the back yard on Greenwood Ave. That street is reserved for school bus or van drop off only. This aids in the safety of our students.
After School And Parking Lot Procedure
All students will be dismissed at 2:00 PM. When dismissed, each teacher will dismiss the students in their class to either van pickup, parent pick up, or AfterCare.
Because BCS is concerned with providing a safe environment for your child, we have adopted specific procedures for parking and student drop-off and pick-up. Pick-up students will be dismissed from the front door parking lot Cars line up in the parking lot from the lower end (by the stoplight), and school staff will dismiss children to cars as they reach the children's waiting area.
Please do not get out of your car to get your child until you have pulled up to the children’s waiting area. Do not park your car to get him/her in the children’s waiting area. Please keep cars in a single line traffic pattern. During inclement weather, students will be dismissed from the entrance by the school office.
PLEASE HELP - - -When dropping off, please enter the parking lot at the entrance closest to the traffic lights. When leaving, exit at the top of the parking lot. (closest to the church sanctuary)
Dismissal
All students must be signed out through the Office if they are being dismissed early. Please send in a note to the child’s teacher if you plan to dismiss your child early for any reason. Please do not go directly to the child's classroom to pick up your child.
Any changes in the regular dismissal plans for your child must be communicated to the school office by parents in writing or by calling the school office. We appreciate your cooperation in avoiding last-minute changes, especially for students who ride the school vans. Please call before 1:30 PM so we can make sure that your child receives the message! Unless we receive parental notice of a change for students, students will be sent to AfterCare or home by usual transportation. Student’s verbal messages are not sufficient notification for changes!
If someone other than a parent is authorized to pick up a child for dismissal, a parent MUST communicate this in writing as well. ID’s will be checked for persons unknown to school personnel.
·Photo I.D. will be necessary for pick-up alternates not listed on Emergency Card. Parents need to notify the school if another party not listed on Emergency Card will be picking up their child and will need to inform their alternate pick-up party to present themselves to the office with their identification before child will be released.
·Students are absolutely restricted from walking alone through the parking lot without being accompanied by an adult. Please help us protect your child!
Chapel
Students will meet for corporate worship and expression in chapel service on Wednesday mornings. It shall be an extension of their Christian training, but not the extent of it. A spirit of reverence should be felt in all chapel services. Attentive, courteous conduct that is honoring to the Lord should be observed at all assemblies. Students are not to talk while coming or going or during the program. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend weekly Chapel services.
Prayer
Students of Brockton Christian School are trained in the habit of prayer throughout the school day, before beginning the responsibilities of each day, before eating lunch, for special needs, and to give God praise for all things. Students are encouraged to make their requests known before God and are given opportunities to pray and to share needs with others as they share their requests with Him.
Bible Version for Classroom Use
The use of Scripture in the classroom is a fundamental, integral and principle part of the educational process. Brockton Christian School recognizes the New International Version as the translation normally used in the classroom for study, quotation and memorization.
Bible Memorization Each student will be involved in Bible memorization through the year. It is desired that each student learn at least one verse per week. These verses will be in accordance with the Bible guide for each grade.
Articles Prohibited from School Items such as toys (including trading cards), cassette/CD players, radios, i-pods, pagers, cell phones, questionable literature, gum, skateboards, matches, lighters, weapons (including play ones), electronic games, etc. are not permitted at school at any time. Failure to comply may result in confiscation of property. Repeated infractions may result in disciplinary action.
Electronic Equipment
Radios, cassette players, etc., may brought to school if permission has been obtained from a teacher for use in the classroom.
Cell Phones
We realize that parents may supply an older student with a cell phone for emergency contact. Students may not use cell phones other than an emergency situation. Phones and all functions must be kept turned off at all times during school. They must be kept in lockers, book bags or purses; they may not be visible on the student’s person at any time. A student who fails to follow this policy will be subject to disciplinary action. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or any type of electronic devices. Students who carry these items do so at their own risk. If a student is observed using a cell phone, it will be confiscated and kept in the school office until a parent retrieves it.
Birthdays and parties
Parties may be held at the teacher’s discretion.
Birthdays are an important time for children, but too many parties prove to be a problem for the teacher. Therefore, Extended Class birthday parties are not held. A student may bring in treats to share with the class. Invitations to birthday parties may not be passed out in class. The refreshments may be shared with the class during recess time or after lunch. Please provide all necessary accessories needed to serve the refreshments – paper plates, napkins, cups, plastic cutlery, etc.
Please use the Parent Directory list to send invitations directly to student’s homes. Information regarding special dietary needs, including allergies should be provided to you as you prepare treats for classroom consumption.
Emergency Closing
On days when snow, sleet, or other inclement weather conditions make travel especially difficult, BCS will follow the decision made by the Brockton Public Schools on whether or not classes will be held. If a decision is made to cancel school or open late, the announcement will be carried beginning at 6:00 A.M. on the following stations:
School closing announcements will be made over radio stations WBET (AM1460) or WEZE (AM 590) and television channels 4, 5, and 7. This announcement will be carried independently as “Brockton Christian School”, not as part of the Brockton Public School’s announcement. BCS utilizes the Brockton Public School transportation, so in the event Brockton Public Schools close, there will be no bus transportation.
In the case of an unscheduled early dismissal, the school will call parents. These same radio and TV stations will carry the announcement of an unscheduled early dismissal. Please do not call the school during this time unless it is extremely urgent.
Fire Drills
Fire Drills are held on a regular basis and are usually unannounced. Students will be trained to exit the building in an orderly fashion, following the Massachusetts regulations for evacuation of school buildings. Information and procedures concerning fire drills and evacuation is posted in each classroom. Fire drills will be rehearsed periodically without prior notice.
Lost and Found
BCS assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Items of value should not be brought to school. Items that have been lost or stolen should be reported to the school office where students may check for their possible return or recovery. Items found in and around the school building should be taken to the office where attempts will be made to locate the owner.
Clothing, books, and personal articles are placed in a location near the school office. Students and their parents or guardians are asked to check and reclaim articles. The school assumes no responsibility for articles left lying about the building or schoolyard. Articles that are not reclaimed after a reasonable time shall be donated to charity.
Parents must label all of their children's belongings, including lunchboxes, coats, sweatshirts, and backpacks. This will help us to return any missing items to your child! Please note that all school uniforms look alike and are almost impossible to return to your child unless labeled!
Lunch
Students may either bring or buy lunch. If buying lunch, provided by the Brockton Public Schools (Chartwell’s Food Service), students have the option of purchasing the main menu or alternate menu items. Milk is included in the purchase price. A menu will be sent home via the child once a month showing the lunch selections. Lunch order forms will be sent home each Monday in the plastic folders. If purchasing lunch, please send correct amount in cash or check, along with the lunch order form, in an envelope that has child’s first and last name, lunch selection, and grade written on it. If a student is absent and has prepaid for lunch, his/her account will be credited. Please make sure your child is aware of what you want them to have for lunch.
The lunch count is taken on Wednesdays by 9:00 A.M. NO late forms will be accepted.
The school staff and the lunch staff will not heat lunches brought in from home.
If your child brings a lunch from home, please put your child's name on the outside top of the lunch box and on the thermos. Glass bottles and containers are not permitted in the lunchroom.
Please be sure to give your children a lunch before they leave for school. Getting a lunch to them at school interrupts the office, student, teacher, and class routine. If you do need to get a lunch to your child, leave it in the school office, where your child should stop by for it.
All students in grades PreK-5 should also bring a snack to eat mid-morning.
Recess
Students will have a daily recess period. When the temperature is 32° or above, students will be expected to go outdoors. If the temperature or wind chill is below 32°, students will have indoor recess. A student who is well enough to come to school is expected to participate in all activities, including recess, unless a doctor’s note has been sent to the school. Students must be prepared with sufficient clothing (gloves, hats, coats, boots if ground is wet) during cold weather for outdoor play.
Students may play ball or other games that do not jeopardize their own or other's safety. BCS will supply a variety of items for recess. Students may bring other items [EXCLUDING SKATEBOARDS] to play with at recess. The use of these is at the discretion of the recess teacher.
On inclement and exceptionally cold days, students will be in their classrooms for recess. If the weather looks threatening, students may want to bring games for this time. Indoor recess will be a time to play quiet games or to pursue individual activities.
Sunglasses/Hats/Boots
All outerwear is to be removed upon entering the building. Parents should see that the students have correct footwear during inclement weather, as boots cannot be worn for the entire school day. Boys may not wear hats inside the building.
School Pictures
Individual and class school pictures will be taken in the fall of the year and the spring. In the fall, uniforms are to be worn. Pictures are sold on a pre-paid basis in the fall. In the spring, casual pictures are taken. Parents will be notified when pictures are delivered to the school. Parents will be able to view their child’s pictures and purchase them, if so desired. All pictures that have not been purchased will be returned to the photographer.
Telephone Usage
Telephone messages should be restricted to emergencies only. Personal matters between parents and students should be handled at home before the student leaves for school. Students will be permitted to call home only in emergencies.
Visitors/Teacher Contacts
All visitors to the school must sign in at the school office . During school hours, teachers are unlikely to speak personally to parents except in emergencies. You may, however, leave a message with the school office.
BCS welcomes and encourages parents and other interested persons to visit our school. We only ask that all visitors call ahead to notify the School office of their intended visit. If you have deliveries for your children, bring them to the school office and the office staff will deliver to the classroom.
