Dear Parents,

As we approach the start of a new school year, let me update you on the events of this summer. It has been a busy time here with renovations on the church side, ClubHouse, and the 7 Up Club (Pastor Mark and the City of Brockton’s cooperative outreach to neighborhood youth program).  Plus – Mr. Les and Mr. Art have been keeping busy with the maintenance of the school.  This summer, we have held our Summer ClubHouse program daily – complete with letter box searches, library trips, art projects, and Friday field trips!  Lastly, by the time school starts, we will have new windows in the AfterCare room.

As many of you know, I’ve been the principal of BCS for twelve years.  What you likely do not know, is that at the close of each year, I marvel at how our needs were once again provided for in the past year, and I wonder what new “adventures” will come our way in the new school year, and how God will provide.

Our newest adventure is now clear, and I want to update you so you can plan for the opening of our school year.  As you know, Trinity Baptist is in the process of restoration after the fire in June of 2006.   As is typically the case with large facilities, many of the systems the school depends on are directly tied into the church.  Some of the wiring the school shares with the church will not be fully connected by the date that we had originally scheduled for opening.

As student safety is of utmost importance, it is in their best interest to re-schedule the start of the school year to Monday, September 10.  For those parents who may find day care an issue, we will continue our Clubhouse program through Friday, September 7.  Please call the school office if you need to register your child for ClubHouse.

So – put Monday, September 10 on your calendar now!  It’s our first day of school!  In less than a month, our building will be full of the sounds of children.  I am looking forward to the beginning of school – and the arrival of our students!

In preparation for the students’ arrival, rugs have been cleaned, walls have been painted, and new textbooks continue to come in.  And, we will continue to offer AfterCare in two age groupings.  Our AfterCare room will be used in the short term for chapel, lunch and some specials classes, until the church renovation is complete.

What is new at BCS this year?  We have two new teachers joining us - Mrs. Jennifer Dawbin in grade 2, and we are in the hiring process for our seventh grade teacher.  We have adopted a new writing program school wide, and a new Geography curriculum in grade 7.  Our AfterSchool program will be enhanced with new and exciting activities under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Durang, who also coordinated the planning of our ClubHouse program this summer. A few of the classes have been relocated to adjust to size and programming needs.  Our relationship with Key Bank Educational Resources for tuition payments) is working well, and helping to streamline the management of our tuition accounts.

On Monday, September 10th, we will gather outside on the field to begin our first day of school together.  While the students go to their new classrooms, parents are invited to the school office for a cup of coffee and a time of fellowship.  When the sanctuary is complete, we will have a formal celebration together – and you’ll be invited!

For the first day of school, please ensure that you have completed the following items:

  • Secured arrangements with Key Bank Educational Resources for tuition payments
  • Completed payment of your curriculum and consumable fees to BCS.  These will need to be paid prior to the first day of school for your child to receive his/her textbooks and school supplies.
  • Returned your child’s completed Emergency Form
  • Your child should bring their finished book report forms for three books on the Summer Reading list (grades 2 – 8)
  • New students:  health records and birth certificates must be in the school office prior to the first day of school!

In the meantime, please keep a few items in prayer as we prepare for the fall semester:

  • Pray for our teachers as they prepare for the fall and ministry here at Brockton Christian School.  We will have two new teachers this year – and we are still in need of a gym and a Spanish teacher.  Pray that God will supply ALL our needs.
  • Pray for the new students that will be starting at BCS in the fall.  We still have room in some classes, so if you know of a family that is looking for a Christian education, please let us know!
  • Pray for all those connected with the BCS family - students, faculty, staff, and families - that the Lord will continue to bless and lead us.
  • Pray for the ministry of BCS - as we minister to the academic and spiritual needs of our students
  • Pray that the work will be completed soon in the church end of the building.  We look forward to the “new” building and pray that the ministry of Trinity Baptist will continue to thrive under the leadership of Pastor Mark Oliver.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  We will have additional information on our website, and some that will be sent home the first day of school.  We look forward to seeing our students coming back to school – and learning this year!

In His love, for His children – the coming Champions,

Karen I. Hodges,

Principal
