BCS Connection

Volume 9 Issue 1 August 15, 2005

School starts August 31!

Students should arrive before 8:00 AM, and gather on the field to the left of the school building.  When students go inside at 8:00 AM, parents are invited to a coffee hour with Mrs. Hodges in the small chapel near the sanctuary.

At 9:00, we’ll all come together for our annual “Opening Convocation,” to start the year with praise and prayer for the year.  Plan to come and celebrate our first day of school – and to bring the BCS family together!

Wednesday is BCS Office Day!

On each Wednesday, the BCS office will send home a folder with your child. Please make every effort to look for it each week.  It will contain the week’s lunch order form, a BCS Connection, AfterCare billing, and other pertinent information.

The first day of school’s packet will include your child’s emergency form, Student Handbook, Computer Use Policy, lunch program information, and medication information.  Please return all documents by Tuesday, September 6.

Tips for a great school year!

Dear Parents/Guardians –

I thought you would enjoy a few simple ideas that might help you and your family gear up for a great school year!

  • Start praying with your child for his or her teacher and classmates

  • Write a quick note to your child’s teacher, to introduce your child and your family

  • Make a plan for after school – AfterCare, day care, home?

  • Label all your child’s belongings for school!

  • Schedule adequate time for homework, play, clubs, sports, and practice – and sleep!

  • Scale back TV time

  • Provide suitable place for study and work.   Spruce up a study space for your children.  Include pens, pencils, dictionary and other needed supplies for homework assignments

  • Organize work and backpack

  • Help your child to be responsible for coming to school prepared

  • Make sure your child gets healthy meals, enough sleep, and good exercise.

  • Encourage reading

  • Establish bedtimes for school nights

  • Collect important phone numbers. Update doctor, work, and other listings for the school office after school programs, and one or two neighbors or family emergency contact people

  • Create a car pool if possible.

  • Find another parent who will exchange school pickup favors in case you get ill or delayed

  • Get children in the habit of getting ready the night before school. Set out clothes, pack lunch, and put the backpack by your front (or back) door

I trust these few hints will help, and will help us to have a great year!     – Mrs. Hodges
