Back to School Night!

We would like to thank all the parents and guardians that attended our first Back to School Night last week!  We had an 80% attendance rate!  If you did not receive your child’s teacher packet, please let us know and we will send one home with your child.

Did you miss the 2005 Faculty and Staff Bio Booklet?  We still have extras, and can send one home with your child if you request one!  Each teacher and staff member has a photo and short biography so you can be better acquainted with us!  It’s all part of our goal of the BCS Connection!

Hurricane Katrina Fund

We would like to thank all of our students and families who participated in our Dress Down Day for Hurricane Katrina victims.  We were able to raise $755.81!   We sent all funds to World Vision International on Friday, September 16, 2005.

School Photographs!

Our school photographs will be taken tomorrow!  All students should wear their school uniforms, as this is our formal yearbook shoot.  Class photographs will be taken as well.

All photographs must be pre-paid AT THE TIME OF PHOTOGRAPHY!  A make-up day will be held later on in the fall for absentees or retakes.

A casual photograph will be taken in the spring, where students can wear casual dress.

Increase... Decrease!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week in chapel, we talked about increasing and decreasing the peace in our building.  We used “kid situations” to help our students realize which actions help increase peace in relationships, and which actions actually decrease peace.

Beyond actions, it is the heart attitude that gives true peace.  John the Baptist, in John 3:30, stated, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”  It is only when we allow Christ to rule in our hearts and control our thoughts and attitudes, that we are truly able to be people of peace!

TO help visualize this concept for your family, have your child draw two arrows, one pointing up, and one pointing down.  This can be used as a focus point in discussing peace in your own family!

We also talked about Power Words.  Hopefully, your child will recognize the following words with power:  “please,” “thank you,” “excuse me,” “may I help you,” and “I want to apologize for…”.  I’d love to hear these mighty powerful words more often! Please let me know if YOU do!

We also introduced Milton Marion Leon Cabezas, our Compassion International Child.  Milton lives in Ecuador, South America.  He is nine years old, and attends the Caminando con Jesus student center, where he goes to school and learns about Jesus.  Our chapel offering each week helps support Milton’s education, nutrition, and family.  Like our students, Milton loves soccer!  Please help your child remember to send in a small offering to help in this ongoing project. If you would like more information regarding Milton, and Compassion International, please contact me!  I’d be glad to send you our child profile!

I would like to thank all parents and guardians who attended our Back to School Night last week.  If you have any suggestions that would help us to keep connected with your family, please let me know!  As always, our office is available for any questions, or you may email me throughout the day at kihodges@brocktonchristian.com.  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s life this year!

BCS Work Day!

On Saturday, October 1, 2005, we will be having our first BCS Work Day.  We invite our BCS families to join with the Trinity Baptist families to help make our school at better – and safer – place for the students!

Our goals are to:  cut down some of the overgrowth of large weeds and bushes, to clean up some of the tree roots that are in the schoolyard, to power wash the back of the wing building, and to possibly paint a wall map on the wing halls.

We need:  men who can help dig up large rocks or cut out tree roots, people to pull weeds (kids can help with this!), and willing hearts and hands!

Please let us know if you can attend and help with our Work Day!  We’d like to spend three hours from 9:00 AM until noon – and many hands make light (0r at least fun!) work!

If you have tools to help with this project, please let us know! Thank you!  It’s all to help make BCS be a better place for YOUR child!

NOTE: our next Dress Down Days, on September 29 and October 6, will help raise funds for our work day projects!

Thank you to...

Mr. Doherty and his son, Tim, for moving our school sign in front of the school

Volunteer parents Nancy Durang and Cheryl King, who helped with “stuffing” the Wednesday folders and in our classrooms!

All those students who have done their homework regularly – and turned it in!

All those students who have earned Praise Notes for going out of their way to help others!  It is noticed – and appreciated!

PreCare

Due to lack of attendance and use, we will have to discontinue our PreCare program.  Please note that there is NO childcare until 7:35 AM each morning.  Students may not be left without an adult present, or in the school building until that time.  Students may not enter the school building until 7:35 AM.

This policy will go into effect on Monday, September 26, 2005.  Thank you.

We're Collecting!

This year, we are working hard to collect things that you might already have at home!

We have three major ongoing fundraising programs:  Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Labels for Education, and computer ink jet cartridges.  We would appreciate if you would send any of these our way, as we are able to turn them in for money and educational supplies that we would not otherwise be able to fund.  Thank you!
