Praise and Encouragement!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week in chapel, we talked about Praising People.  Don’t you love to be encouraged?  I actually keep parent and student notes of encouragement, so I can read them again when I need to!

A great verse to remember is: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”  (I Thessalonians 5:11)  When we praise and encourage each other, it creates an atmosphere of peace!

I would love to see our students and staff – and families – take opportunities to encourage one another.  One way that we can encourage is to write notes and “PraiseNotes.”  I remember the looks of joy on our fifth graders’ faces when they received a Praise Note from the Kindergarten earlier this year for their help as reading buddies.  Their faces were shining!

Another practical thing that families could do is writing a Praise Note to your child’s teacher!  I can guarantee that she would have a joyful moment as well!

We will also be working on Power Words in the building.  Hopefully, your child will recognize the following words with power:  “please,” “thank you,” “excuse me,” “may I help you,” and “I want to apologize for…”.  I’d love to hear these mighty powerful words more often!   (I’m starting to hear it more in the school office!)  Please let me know if YOU do!

If you have any suggestions that would help us to keep connected with your family or to “increase the peace”, please let me know!  As always, our office is available for any questions, or you may email me throughout the day at kihodges@brocktonchristian.com.  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s life this year!

Meet...

Rev. Dr. Mark T. Oliver!

Pastor Mark Oliver has been the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, our sponsoring church, for six months.  He and his wife, Cheri, moved here from Pennsylvania in April.  He grew up in Oakdale, NY, and then attended Iowa State University, Troy State University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Westminister Theological Seminary.  He has a Th. M in Bible Exposition and a D. Min. in Urban Mission.

Dr. Oliver and his wife have three sons: Jason (28), Jeremy (26), and Jess (23).  Jeremy and his wife, Cyndy, have a toddler, Mackenzie Rose.

In his “spare” time, Dr. Oliver enjoys repairing old homes, helping young people learn how to play baseball, reading, and having fun at the beach!

When asked about his favorite things at BCS, he mentioned “the multicultural demographics and the heart of the teachers to serve the Lord.”

His “dream” for the school is to see a new school building!  His most meaningful experiences at BCS thus far have been “praying for each of the families of our school – that they will grow in their understanding and love of the Lord Jesus Christ, and working with Karen Hodges to make BCS the very best school in the area!”

Pastor Oliver has worked with Trinity Baptist Church to help host a work day here at the school this weekend!   If you come, you’ll be able to meet him face to face!
