Volunteers
Needed!
We
could use some parent volunteers in the morning to help supervise
children before school. (7:45 – 8:00 AM) If you
can help in this area, please contact Mrs. Hodges. (Any
regular volunteer needs to fill out some paperwork in the
school office.) Thank you !!!!
If you are interested in chaperoning a field trip or volunteering
during the school day, you will need to fill out paperwork
as well. School policy dictates that any staff member
or volunteer have a CORI background check. Thank you
for your understanding!

Morning
Drop Off
If
you are dropping off a student in the morning, please pull
in a parking space and walk your child to the field or to
the side door. Please do not leave your car in the driveway,
so other parents can get in or out of the parking lot.
We are concerned for the safety of our students, so it would
help if all parents would adhere to this procedure. Thank
you.

Teacher
Inservice Day
On Friday, September
30, our teachers spent a day together in Boston. We
were able to visit Park Street Church to learn about the history
of the church and Boston. We also visited the Museum
of African American History on Joy Street. (right behind
the state capital) You may check out information on
the museum and the Black Heritage Trail at http://www.afroammuseum.org/trail.htm.
If you would like information about either of these sites,
please contact Mrs. Hodges.

Giving
Up Put Downs
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last week in chapel, we talked about Giving Up Put Downs.
The old phrase, “Sticks and stones will break my bones,
but names will never hurt me” is not true! Words
can, and do, hurt. We can’t “take back”
words, just like we can’t put toothpaste back in the
tube after we squeeze it out!
If
you hear your child “putting down” someone else,
label it! Let them know that words hurt. We have
talked with the students about labeling put downs, and walking
away from potentially volatile situations.
A
great verse to remember is: “Reckless
words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings
healing.” (Proverbs 12:18) If we use words
to encourage and build each other up, they will bring healing
instead of hurt!
During
the next few weeks, all of us will have the opportunity to
help others with Operation Christmas Child. It has been
a BCS tradition to pack shoeboxes with goodies to send to
children would not otherwise receive Christmas gifts.
Perhaps this year’s boxes will go to Hurricane Katrina
victims, or to Ecuador, or Burkina Faso! More information
is coming home today, or you can check out the Samartan's
Purse website at http://www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC_Index.asp
If
you have any suggestions that would help us to keep connected
with your family or to “increase the peace”, please
let me know! As always, our
office is available for any questions, or you may email me
throughout the day at kihodges@brocktonchristian.com.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s
life this year!
