Calendar
Fundraiser
Our
Calendar Fundraiser will end on Friday, October 21.
We have already received a number of orders this week!
The winning class will be treated to a movie and popcorn afternoon,
and each student who sells at least 5 calendars will have
a free dress down day next week.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 24 students and 2 staff had sold
over 9 calendars each! Mrs. Doherty’s third grade
class is in the lead! We are well on our way to our
goal of selling 1000 calendars this year! Thank you for your
support of this fundraiser!

School
Pictures
Your
child’s school pictures should be in the office folder
today. If you need to have a retake, please send the
entire package back to the school office. We will arrange
for retakes shortly!
We
also included a student identification card from “Smile
Safe Kids,” a free service from LifeTouch. In
the event that your child is ever missing, you will have a
current photo, along with identifying information, to give
to law enforcement agencies.

Operation
Christmas Child
During
the next few weeks, all of us will have the opportunity to
help others with Operation Christmas Child. It has been
a BCS tradition to pack shoeboxes with goodies to send to
children would not otherwise receive Christmas gifts.
Perhaps this year’s boxes will go to Hurricane Katrina
victims, or to Ecuador, or Burkina Faso! We have sent
home information and flyers, or you can check out Samaritan's
Purse at: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC_Index.asp
Collection
day is Friday, November 4!

Is anyone interested
in helping to plan a float for the Brockton Christmas Parade?
Please contact Mrs. Kingsley, grade 6.
The parade is
usually held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We participated
by marching in the parade last year.

Seeking
Out Wise People
Dear
Parents and Guardians,
This week in chapel, we talked about
Seeking Out Wise People. We can help children
learn what it means to be wise by:
- Reading stories in which characters
make wise choices
- Noticing others who make wise
choices
- Having children talk with or
about adults who have made wise choices
- Looking for wise people in
news stories
- Learning about wise actions
in their culture or history
- Learning Scripture verses that
talk about wisdom and wise choices
Point out the
“Wise People” in your child’s life, and
encourage seeking them out when your child has questions,
concerns, or problems. Even adults need to seek out wise people!
I have fond memories of the wise people in my own life: my
third grade teacher (who encouraged me to read), my piano
teacher in high school (who encouraged me to play the piano
in church and at school), a college professor (who encouraged
me to teach), a longstanding friend, and family members. Their
advice and counsel helped my through many trying times. And,
as adults, now we can serve as wise people for the children
in our lives.
We all need to
point out that seeking counsel is not a sign of weakness,
but rather that of strength. “Plans fail for lack of
counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs
15:22) And – seeking advice and counsel from wise people
gives true wisdom! “Pride only breeds quarrels, but
wisdom is found in those who take advice.” (Proverbs
13:10)
Together,
the school and families create an environment for learning
and growing. Part of that is serving as “Wise People”
to the children that we serve. Thank you for allowing us to
be a part of your child’s life this year!
