Operation Christmas Child

During the next few weeks, all of us will have the opportunity to help others with Operation Christmas Child.  It has been a BCS tradition to pack shoeboxes with goodies to send to children would not otherwise receive Christmas gifts.  Perhaps this year’s boxes will go to Hurricane Katrina victims, or to Ecuador, or Burkina Faso!  We have sent home information and flyers, or you can check out Samaritan's Purse at: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC_Index.asp

Collection day is Friday, November 4!

Seeking Out Wise People

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week in chapel, we talked about Seeking Out Wise People. We can help children learn what it means to notice hurts by:

• Reading stories in which characters admitted that they were wrong and made amends (a great choice for bedtime!)

• Reading Scripture stories (try Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10 and Abigail in I Samuel 25)

• Admitting our own mistakes. When we admit our mistakes and tell children, they think more of us rather than less. If we practice the behaviors that we want them to emulate, children know that we are sincere!

• Recognizing when your child admits to wrongdoing (sin) and confessing it

The following verses help in teaching children to confess their wrongdoings: “He who conceals his sin does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13) and “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)

As adults, it is important for us to help children own up to their own behavior. If we praise them when they admit that they cause a hurt, and help them figure out a way to right the wrong, they will be well on their way to becoming adults with integrity!

I am glad to write that one of our students shared that a classmate was a “wise person,” as she helped out another student who needed help in the lunchroom. The language – and the concept – is catching on! I hope to hear about more wise people here at the school!

As always, our office is available for any questions, or you may email me throughout the day at kihodges@brocktonchristian.com. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s life this year!

Karen I. Hodges, Principal

Closing Bell on Your Cell!

We are pleased to announce a new system for announcing school closings.  You can be notified on your cell phone of school closings or delays by a new website feature on www.whdh.com.  You will need to input your cell phone number, the name of your carrier, and choose the school.  You will be updated by cell phone of any closings or delays!

Things are Happening Here!

During the past week, you could see many new things happening here at Brockton Christian School.

  • Our brass and percussion ensemble, (Brianna LaCasse, James Johnson, Gabriel Remy, Johashy Cornely, Blake Ayemoba, Andrew Gentile, Joshua Bevilacqua, Zachary Lynch, and Luke Ferreira) played the offering for chapel!  They played “Holy, Holy, Holy”
  • Our fourth graders shared animal projects with other classes.  Each student created a flip booklet, with research and illustrations, and presented them to our students.  Good job, fourth grade!
  • Three of our fourth graders (Lauren Adams, Rebecca Willis, and Jake Cahill) recited our school theme verses in chapel!
  • Our sixth graders visited the Buttonwood Park Zoo last week.
