Operation Christmas Child

We are pleased to announce that we were able to collect over 90 Christmas Child boxes! They were dedicated in chapel today, and sent to the local distribution center in Lakeville. We would like to thank Ms. Carver for helping to coordinate this project. Packing and sorting volunteers this year included: Ms. Carver, Mrs. O’Regan, Mrs. Myette, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Hodges, Mrs. Lussier, Mrs. Kasica (with Katerina – 1), Mrs. Dorothy Silva and her friend Barbara Cogswell, Jenay Israel (6), and Ms. Carver. Some of our 7th graders helped wrap boxes as well.

As part of the project, we were asked to supply $5.00 for each box packed. If you would like to help with this part of the project, please send in $5.00, or a portion thereof, by Friday, November 18. Thank you!

Defining Moments

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A few weeks ago, we had a defining moment at BCS. As principal, I have the opportunity to see growth in students over several years. I have also seen growth in the student body. This year, we have experienced what I call “defining moments” of spiritual growth as a school.

Two weeks ago, Jared Nevens came to our chapel service. As you recall, Jared is serving with the US Army in Iraq. He was home for a two-week leave, and visited us during our chapel time. Jared shared about his life in Iraq, the food, his vehicle, his free time, etc. Due to security issues, he cannot tell us exactly what he is doing. When we asked him how we could pray for him, Jared asked us to pray for his safety, his courage, and that he would grow spiritually while on his tour of duty.

Sensing that both Jared and our students needed a visual reminder of his visit, I asked Jared to stand in the middle of the sanctuary and for the students to surround him. We all crowded together, circling Jared with over 100 students and staff.
We asked the students to pray for Jared – and they did! Older students, younger students, boys, girls – prayers from their hearts. It was quiet, with about 20 students offering prayer for Jared, for his safety, his spiritual growth, his work, and his safe return. It was a “defining moment” for all of us, staff and students alike.

It is when we see these moments that we sense growth, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s work here at Brockton Christian School. It is one of the reasons why I love being a part of the ministry here.

I’d love to hear about your child’s defining moments here at BCS. Please share them with us!

Karen I. Hodges, Principal

Christmas CLubHouse!

Due to popular demand, we are offering our CLubHouse program during the Christmas vacation. If you need childcare (PreK through grade 5) during the week, please let us know! There is an information folder in your child’s plastic packet today. We also have more brochures in the school office. If you have a friend who would be interested, this program would also be open to them.

Christmas Clubhouse will operate from 11:00 AM on December 21 through Friday, December 30. (We will be closed on December 26, a legal holiday.) Operating hours: 7:30 – 5:30 daily.

Things are Happening Here!

During the past week, you could see many new things happening here at Brockton Christian School.

• Our fourth graders wrote letters to Mrs. Hodges, asking her to visit the Northeastern States, as a review of their Social Studies unit. They wrote about the natural resources and scenic vistas. Becca, Dominique, and Jon-Lawrence’s letters convinced Mrs. Hodges!

• Our 3rd graders had a day of reading last week. Sleeping bags, pillows, and lots of books contributed to a day that all enjoyed!

• Our 4 – 8th graders have started a Step Club that will be meeting on Friday afternoons. Seventh graders Shakena Baker, Lynea Adams, and Elizabeth Chaupette are working with Ms. Summers to help our students “get moving!”

Christmas Parade

We will not be participating in the Brockton Christmas parade this year, as we did not have enough volunteers. Maybe next year!
