8th Grade Fundraiser
Our 8th grade
class is coordinating a Hilliard’s Candy fundraiser
for textbooks for the coming year. Students in grades 4 –
8 are welcome to help with this project (or parents in any
other grade!). If you are interested in receiving a box of
candy bars to sell, please contact our 8th grade by email
through the office, or send in a note. Each candy bar costs
only $1.00, with a 50% profit level. Our goal? At least 10
text books ($150.00) for the first wave! Thank you for your
support!
World
Culture Day
We are planning our World
Culture Day for the middle of March during Spirit Week. We’re
looking for a large group activity or demonstration (step,
African Dance, liturgical movement, etc) for an afternoon.
Do any of our parents have an idea or contact?

Real
Teamwork
I
saw an example of teamwork and servanthood last week. The
eighth grade class students came down to the office and asked
if I had a few minutes to talk with them. My immediate thought
was, “oh, oh – what’s going on?” To
my amazement, those five students asked to meet with me. We
went into the sunroom, and they asked if they could work together
selling Hilliard’s candy bars to help raise money for
the school! When asked what they wanted to do, they mentioned
that they just wanted to help out the school!
So, we talked about some of the needs of the school. They
knew that the money that they raised would not impact them,
but future students. I talked to them about the concerns that
I had about raising tuition, and the cost of obtaining new
textbooks for the next school year. They were surprised that
a new math textbook for grades 4 – 8 could cost over
$55.00, and that History and Geography texts were $65.00!
The new Science books for Junior high are about $15.00, with
three textbooks needed per grade (they are done in units).
Our eighth grade students offered to help raise money for
new Science textbooks for the junior high! At a cost of $15.00,
we can purchase a classroom set of a unit for $150.00. If
we purchase 9 units, we can obtain books for the entire Junior
High!
I cannot tell you how much of an encouragement that was to
me. Students offering to help in a project that will not affect
them - can you imagine? It gives great hope for the next generation
of young teens! So – thank you – Joshua, Jonathan,
Sidney, Brianna, and Melanie!
At our parent meeting on
Monday, January 30, you will have the opportunity to explore
options to help create a financial base for next year –
and beyond! Come hear our hopes and dreams – and our
desire to raise up other leaders like Josh, Jon, Sid, Brianna,
and Mel! Come with your ideas – for together we will
make a great team!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact
me! Thank you!
