8th Grade Fundraiser

Our 8th grade class is coordinating a Hilliard’s Candy fundraiser for textbooks for the coming year. Students in grades 4 – 8 are welcome to help with this project (or parents in any other grade!). If you are interested in receiving a box of candy bars to sell, please contact our 8th grade by email through the office, or send in a note. Each candy bar costs only $1.00, with a 50% profit level. Our goal? At least 10 text books ($150.00) for the first wave! Thank you for your support!

World Culture Day

We are planning our World Culture Day for the middle of March during Spirit Week. We’re looking for a large group activity or demonstration (step, African Dance, liturgical movement, etc) for an afternoon. Do any of our parents have an idea or contact?

Uniform Sale/Swap

We have received one card for our uniform swap board. Please come to the school office if you wish to inquire about used uniforms!

Box Tops and Ink Jet Cartridges

To date, we have received:

• $46.60 for used print cartridges
• $203.53 from Box Tops for Education

Please continue to send in your Campbell Soup Labels, ink jet cartridges, and Box Tops! We will be sending in another redemption box soon! Thank you!

Tax Related Information

Would you like a statement of AfterCare or child care for your 2005 taxes? You can request an AfterCare year-end statement for tax purposes. Please send your request in writing to the school office, attention Debbie Powell. You may also email her at dapowell@brocktonchristian.com. We will need a minimum of three days in order to prepare your statement.

Real Teamwork

I saw an example of teamwork and servanthood last week. The eighth grade class students came down to the office and asked if I had a few minutes to talk with them. My immediate thought was, “oh, oh – what’s going on?” To my amazement, those five students asked to meet with me. We went into the sunroom, and they asked if they could work together selling Hilliard’s candy bars to help raise money for the school! When asked what they wanted to do, they mentioned that they just wanted to help out the school!

So, we talked about some of the needs of the school. They knew that the money that they raised would not impact them, but future students. I talked to them about the concerns that I had about raising tuition, and the cost of obtaining new textbooks for the next school year. They were surprised that a new math textbook for grades 4 – 8 could cost over $55.00, and that History and Geography texts were $65.00! The new Science books for Junior high are about $15.00, with three textbooks needed per grade (they are done in units).

Our eighth grade students offered to help raise money for new Science textbooks for the junior high! At a cost of $15.00, we can purchase a classroom set of a unit for $150.00. If we purchase 9 units, we can obtain books for the entire Junior High!

I cannot tell you how much of an encouragement that was to me. Students offering to help in a project that will not affect them - can you imagine? It gives great hope for the next generation of young teens! So – thank you – Joshua, Jonathan, Sidney, Brianna, and Melanie!

At our parent meeting on Monday, January 30, you will have the opportunity to explore options to help create a financial base for next year – and beyond! Come hear our hopes and dreams – and our desire to raise up other leaders like Josh, Jon, Sid, Brianna, and Mel! Come with your ideas – for together we will make a great team!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me! Thank you!

Parent Report Card

Please remember to pass in your Parent Report Card (fancy words for a survey). However, we do wish that you would take the time to give us your suggestions and “grades” for our programs! To date, we have received surveys from 9% of our families.
This is your opportunity – please voice your opinion – for your child’s benefit! Thank you!

Things are Happening Here!

During the past week, you could see many different things happening here at Brockton Christian School:

• Mrs. Hodges and Mrs. Powell are our new Science Fair coordinators! They met with the 6 – 8 grade students yesterday to help inspire and teach the students how to create an experimental project. The PowerPoint presentation was created by Bill Powell, one of our former students, who is now a student at ITT Tech!

• Our Junior High students watched “Remember the Titans” as part of their history classes, and as port of our celebration of Black History Month.

• Our Kindergarten class made “Stone Soup” in class last week, and shared their bounty with the school staff. Thank you!

Parent Connections

We are aware of many parents in the BCS family who have local businesses. Would you be interested in having some information on our web page? We could help you connect with a local business for when you might have a need. (For example, I know of a building contractor, chiropractor, loan officer, and carpenter!) We could also feature someone’s occupation in our newsletter! If you are interested, please email or fax your information to Mrs. Hodges. We’ll get back to you!
(We have already had two parents interested in such a forum!)
