8th Grade Fundraiser
Our Hilliard’s
fundraiser has already raised over $400.00! That translates
into almost 24 Science textbooks! Thank you for your support!
If you have not sent in your candy money, please send it in
this week! Students who have paid their money for an entire
box received a free dress down certificate today in their
packets.
We
are planning our World Culture Day for the middle of March
during Spirit Week. We’re looking for a large group
activity or demonstration (step, African Dance, liturgical
movement, etc) for an afternoon. Do any of our parents have
an idea or contact?
Don’t
forget to finish the Black History Month activities!
Grades PreK – 2 may make a poster,
and grades 3 – 8 may write essays about famous quotes
that will make a difference! See the page on our website (Black
History Month) for the quotes!
Projects were due today, but we will accept them on Thursday,
February 16, due to the snow day.
RE-Enrollment
is NOW!
We
are now in our re-enrollment period. Please note that new
students will be registering as well, so send in your re-enrollment
form to ensure a place for your child!
Our Prospective Student Open Houses will be on March 8 and
April 5. Remember – you receive a credit on your February
2007 tuition if you refer students and they enroll! See your
enrollment package for details.
Are
you an Aaron or a Hur?
Aaron
or Hur? Who are they? If you had come to chapel on February
8th, you would have learned about them. Miss Perez, our second
grade teacher, read us the story of Moses and the Amalekites.
(You can read it yourself in Exodus 17:8-16)
When Moses was fighting the Amalekites,
his friends and supporters, Aaron and Hur, came along beside
him and held his arms up. You see, holding the hands high
is a sign of victory! When Moses’ hands were raised,
the Israelites were triumphing. When his arms were tired,
the Amalekites strengthened. Aaron and Hur held his arms –
and held him steady.
Miss Perez had one of our students come
forward and hung bags of “rocks” on his arms.
Peer pressure, homework, low self-esteem – all these
“weigh” us down. Our 8th grade boy’s arms
tired soon! Miss Perez had two of her second grade students
give him a chair, and then held up his arms. They came alongside,
and gave him support.
I would hope that the faculty and staff
members are like Aaron and Hur to our students and their families.
There are families that serve as Aaron and Hur to me! We are
put in this community together to help support, encourage,
and strengthen each other.
In our culture, we are not encouraged to
create a community that cares. But, biblically, we should
care and encourage! It is NOT a sign of weakness! It is a
sign of strength to care, and to encourage, and to support.
BCS is a community of families, of children and adults who
are brought together by a common interest and concern: the
education and nurturing of children.
I invite
any ideas and comments that will help build community at BCS.
We are already on our way! Come to the initial Parent Booster
Meeting that has been rescheduled to Monday, March 6! Together
– we can show that we care for each other – and
our kids! And – thank you, Miss Perez, for that reminder!
As always, if
you have any questions or concerns, please contact me! Thank
you!
